The GreenMarket – which began around 30 years ago with 13 vendors – now features more than a hundred vendors that peddle goods such as produce from nearby farms, food from high-quality local businesses, artisanal handmade crafts, and exotic flowers. Just taking a gander at the variety of available goods while taking in all the sights and sounds is an experience in itself. Patrons and visitors flock to the place not just to buy groceries but also to talk with the vendors and see friends and neighbors. The place has further leaned into the charms of an intimate public space by recently adding shaded seating areas, hiring local musicians to perform, and offering kids’ activities for free. The West Palm Beach GreenMarket has garnered dozens of awards throughout its lifetime, most notably “Best Farmers Market in the United States” by USA Today, a title it has kept since 2021.
- Palm Beach Lake Trail
Just across Royal Park Bridge from the downtown area is the Palm Beach Lake Trail. This 5.5-mile biking trail offers a scenic view of the western edge of Palm Beach. Heading northward, bikers are treated to a view of the West Palm Beach skyline and Lake Worth Lagoon’s waters to the left, while to the right one can catch glimpses of the island’s most opulent homes and their backyards. A few historical houses, the Flagler Museum, Sea Gull Cottage, and a gigantic kapok tree with prominent buttress roots serve as landmarks before the trail ends at the Sailfish Club of Florida.
